Kwara Will No Longer Be Civil Servants State - Towoju

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Olabode George Towoju has reiterated the commitment of the State Government to change the narrative of the state from being a Civil Servant State to an industrialized one, with the recent #200 Million naira grants for 4,000 Artisans in the state.

The Commissioner stated this while fielding questions on a sponsored radio programme, "Ijoba Mekunu", which is aimed at keeping Kwarans abreast of activities of the state government.

According to him, "hitherto the coming of this administration, Kwara is known as a civil servant state as majority of Kwarans were civil servants and were not even well paid. First we took care of that. 

"Then we moved on to ensuring that we change the narrative from being a civil servant state to an industrial estate. Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made the first move by revamping the garment factory which used to be one of our prides in the state. The factory will be commissioned very soon. 

"He then moved on to build an ICT Innovation Hub and Visual Arts, the second Dolby Atmos certified film production studio in west Africa which will make Kwara the new go-to-place for African creative industry.

"We have equally given out grants to entrepreneurs in the state through kwaraprenuer 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. We have given out and still giving out grants to market women through the 'Owo Ishowo' initiative. The latest programme being the 200 Million naira grants for 4,000 Artisans in the state. 

"By the time all these investments begin to yield result, Kwara will be the epicentre of industrialization in Nigeria".

Speaking on the modality for registration for the Artisan Grants, Towoju said, "first, the applicants must be Kwarans and then proceed to the portal to upload their tax clearance for the year 2022 from KWIRS. They must also indicate their profession on the portal."

Responding on the loans taken so far and the attendant rumour that it was being misappropriated, he described it as a lie from the pit of hell. This administration, Towoju said, is not the type that takes the state money and used it for personal gains like the previous administration. We make sure Kwara money is spent on Kwarans and that is why the loan is used to facilitate projects that will benefit Kwarans. 

The loan, Towoju stated further, is used for the construction of the bridge at tanke, the ICT Innovation Hub, Kwara Visual Arts Centre, the Garment Factory, and many other roads and educational projects in the state.

Speaking on media suppression in the state,  he said the allegation that Kwara State Government is suppressing the media in the state is not true. We have many new radio stations like Nootia FM at Okuta serving the Kwara North Senatorial District and kakaki FM, all now operating in Kwara State. If we are truly censoring the media, we should not have that number of radio stations in the state. 

Towoju also highlighted the retinue of investments  the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has made in the last three and a half years, describing them as futuristic, sustainable and unusual in the annals of the history of the state.

On education, "our investment in education has begun to pay off. Recently, our secondary school pupils just returned from Dubai for a debate competition where they represented Nigeria in a World Debate. They came second in the competition", the Commissioner added.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
