DONT GLORIFY TERRORISTS - Towoju

The Kwara State  Government has charged journalists not to glorify terrorists as this could undermine the effort of government in combating their nefarious activities nationwide.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Olabode George Towoju, gave this charge  today, at the ongoing Kwara State Union of Journalists' 2022 Press Week, in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital.

Hon. Towoju, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Christiana Asonibare said, " Press coverage is very fundamental to the ongoing fight against terrorism in the country, but don't glorify terrorists as this will  encourage their nefarious activities and make them feel empowered by your coverage. Instead, compliment governments' efforts at all levels  to check the menace out of our dear county."

Speaking further, Towoju urged the members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm "to give constructive criticism of the government activities by publicizing the numerous achievements of the current administration, under the able leadership of our amiable Governor, Mall AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, part of which is gender sensitivity" among others.

Earlier in his speech, a Medical Doctor at Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr Arigidi Steven encouraged the audience to pay attention to their mental health by eating healthily and taking break from excessive activities.

Also, the Chairman of the Kwara Branch of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr Ahmed Lanre Lateef, appreciated Hon. Towoju for honouring the invitation "and also, the Executive Governor of Kwara State for his gender sensitiviteness in his appointment, for which he will be honoured by the Union on the last day of the Press Week, on Friday".

In company of the representative of the Hon. Commissioner was the Deputy Director of Public Orientation, Mr Agboola Olarewaju and other staff of the Ministry.
