KWSG revitalizing digital literacy in Public Schools -Towoju

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Olabode George Towoju, has re-echoed the passion and drive of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq towards ensuring the Kwara Child is exposed, at an early age, to digital literacy which helps in boosting knowledge and competing with international peers. 

Towoju gave this appraisal of the government while speaking at the Education Reform Dialogue organized by the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Students' Support Group (AASSG) with the theme, "Unlocking the Power of Education Reform for Equitable Growth in the 21st Century" held at Radio Kwara hall today. 

According to the Commissioner, the government is extending its "fairness and equity mantra" to the public school sector in the state by ensuring that no Kwara Child gets left behind in the 21st Century digitalization. 

"We all know that in the Kwara of past years, little attention was paid to our public schools, unlike how our exceptional governor is now ensuring that no one is left behind.

"Little attention was paid to our pupils in public schools because the rich leaders enrolled their kids in private schools and hence, children of the masses were left behind. 

"Now in Kwara State, things have changed and will continue to change for the best. We are not there yet but with what we can all see, we can attest that this governor is doing a brilliant job in education sector and other sectors too.

"Look at how fair the recruitment of teachers was done. Without knowing anybody, competent and qualified candidates were recruited. That was not happening in the past but all thanks to our amiable governor for his good works," he added. 

On his part, the Chief Press Secretary(CPS) to the state governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaiye, reiterated the government's commitment to the education sector while adding that the "standard and style of teaching has greatly improved under the administration of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq."

According to the CPS, the governor has set a legacy for others to follow and the Kwara State Education Trust Fund, an offshoot of the Education Summit held in the state, is being established to enhance public school education by partnering with private sectors.

Mallam Ajakaiye assured that more local governments will still benefit from the digitalization of education as seen in KwaraLearn, while adding that the four local governments benefitting at the moment are part of the pilot scheme. 

The Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Olu Adewara, affirmed that in the education sector, "Kwara never had it so good like it is happening under present administration."

The Chairman admitted that the "swapping of principals" in public schools has helped to greatly curb examination malpractices amongst students at external examinations. 

He, however, urged the government to extend KwaraLearn to secondary schools and clamoured for more synergy between the government and the union.

The Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Aderemi Oyunranti, reiterated the government's impact in the sector while specifically noting that the governor "has been very passionate about the School of Special Needs and he makes everybody feel special irrespective of their differences."
