Kwara has Zero Tolerance for Social Vices- AbdulMaliq- Bashir

Kwara State Government has zero tolerance for all forms  of social vices, especially cases of rape, molestations and abuse in whatever guise.

The state government is, therefore, committed to fighting against the menace of all social vices bringing perpetrators to book.

The state Commisioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Riskatullahi AbdulMaliq-Bashir gave this assurance at a just concluded 3- day training  held at the Conference Room of the  Ministry.

The training titled "Effective Operationalization of Sexual Assault Refferal Centre in Kwara State" was organised by Habiba Dangana Foundation (HADIS)

AbdulMaliq-Bashir, who  noted that the ministry was  duty bound to take the bull by the horn to tackle the menace, called for urgent action to stamp such social vices  out from the society.

She assured the organizers of the support of the First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador (Dr.) Olufolake Abdulrazaq, who is also the Chairman of the 21-man Committee on Sexual and Gender Based Violence, for the activation of the Sexual Assault Refferal Centre and Implementation of other programs of the Committee.

Abdulmaliq-Bashir expressed her profound gratitude to HADIS Foundation for organizing the training and enjoined participants to seize the opportunity to set Kwara State free from social vices.

The Special Assistant  on Gender and Legal Matters  to  the First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi,
Barrister Shirley Edabo Atane, informed the gathering that Sexual Assault Refferal Centre (SARC) is a Central Data point for Gender Based Violence in the State and ready made psychosocial support center for clients of rape or the first point of call for victims of rape.

Barrister Atane reiterated that all cases of rape belong to the state government, rape cases therefore should be brought to the SARC  where officers in charge are to stand a very legal ground for clients, till perpetrators are discovered and brought to book.

Barrister Atane described the SARC as the most essential facility to the state, which must be made private and comfortable as much as possible, because the center is meant to curb stigmatization and offer technical support to clients.

In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim congratulated the 21man committee for progress recorded so far and their achievements in the sensitization of the masses as well as the move to establish Sexual Assault Refferal Centres at General Hospital, Children Specialist Hospital, Center Igboro and Civil Service Clinic all in Ilorin Metropolis.

Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim stressed further that the training was meant to impact in the officers who will work at SARC and members of the Committee saddled with the responsibility of popularizing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law in Secondary Schools in Kwara State.
