Kwara Environment Ministry, KWIRS Partner On Waste Management

In its effort to regulate and monitor the activities of the waste collectors, the Kwara State Ministry of Environment has affirmed its readiness to partner with the Kwara State Internal Revenue service (KWIRS) for data collection for the  collation  and zoning of houses to ensure effective waste management in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hon.  Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh said this  during a working visit to the KWIRS Executive Chairman's Office  with Management of the Ministry, the  Kwara State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Taskforce,(Rtd) Air Vice Marshal Ishaq Balogun and his counterpart, (Rtd) Colonel Kayode Umar, a member of the taskforce.

Buraimoh said this step would go  along way  in strategizing the best way of making the commercial waste collectors actively involved in waste collection through the data given to them to work on.

She added that the mode of waste collection will be properly spelt out  and executed within a short period of time inorder to achieve greater output in curbing the menace of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.

The Commissioner acknowledged the efforts of  Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in  implementing environmental sustainability development programmes and policies for the betterment of the state.

In his own contributions, the Chairman, Kwara State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Taskforce, Rtd, Air Vice Marshal Ishaq Balogun; said  the visit was to articulate issues which would serve as a yardstick for the waste collectors in the state.

He stated further that these criteria would serve as an assessment in monitoring the activities of the waste collectors as these have not been rightly done earlier.

Earlier, while welcoming the Commissioner and her team,the Executive Chairman, KWIRS, Dr. Shade Omoniyi expressed gratitude to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for constituting the taskforce Committee to change people's mindset on waste management.

 Omoniyi added that there is need to clearly spell out the duties between the commercial and social waste collectors to avoid overlapping duties and help pathways for a good job.

She promised that KWIRS will  provide the necessary data collection for the smooth running of the Committee's duties.

The Head of Parastatals, KWIRS, Mrs Adewunmi  Adeleye who is in charge of the data collection emphasized the need to monitor the revenue and data zoning for waste collection.

She stressed further on the need for allocating data to the consultants who will only collect waste and the modality of payment will be modified, noting the need for enforcement backed up by the regulating law.

In his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Pastor Abraham Kola Ojo; appreciated the agency for their hospitality and warm reception.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024. In a statement issued by the Ministry today in Ilorin, all Private Primary Schools are to come to the  Quality Assurance Bureau Headquarter's office, Ilorin, for their pupils registration of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) materials with evidence of payment of their taxes.
