KWSG URGES HEALTH WORKERS TO BE SERVICE DELIVERY-ORIENTED, COMMITTED TO DUTY

The Kwara State Government, through the State Hospital Management Board (HMB), has urged health workers to be committed to service delivery to justify the huge resources committed to the health sector by the government. The Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, stated this at the Share General Hospital, during the routine monitoring exercise of the Board. The Executive Secretary also disclosed that the exercise is one of the core mandates of the Agency, aimed at having first hand information on activities going on in all the health facilities of the State government. Dr.Malik assured the public that all the facilities under the Agency would give maximum service delivery to justify the effort of the Government towards providing accessible and quality health care services. Kwara ACReSAL Visits Shonga, Environs, Assess flooded farmlands

With the recent flood occurrence in Shonga, the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) has visited the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment of the rice farmlands and communities submerged by the flood incident. The visit by the KWACReSAL is coming days after a high-powered delegation of the Kwara State Government visited the community to condole with them and establish the cause of the unusual flooding as well as to conduct reconnaissance survey to ascertain the level at which the flood has caused havoc on the lives and properties of the people of Shonga community, and its environs. The Kwara State Government, through the State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has reasserted its readiness to use all necessary mechanisms to curb environmental nuisance in every part of the State, to safeguard the health of citizens and ensure no compromise on maintaining cleanliness and upholding the environmental laws of the State. The Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, (KWEPA), Hajia Idayat Folorunsho disclosed this while addressing the Shop Owners Association at Taiwo Oke Ilorin, during the routine enforcement exercise. Kwara State Government has sounded serious warnings to proprietors of coaching centers across the state, to henceforth desist from lifting students from various schools, under the pretext of preparing them for Seniors Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)or be ready to face the full wrath of law. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the naming of some old and new legacy projects in the state after historic figures and leaders.  On top of the list is the First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu, after whom the multibillion naira Civil Service Clinic project is being named.  The old clinic is now being reconstructed from scratch to emerge as a multistory health facility. In a bid to streamline preparations for the 2025 Hajj, the Kwara State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board has clarified details about the cost of pilgrimage and the deadline for payment during a live session on Gerin 95.5 FM, recently. The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, disclosed that Hajj fares for this year will vary across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones due to differences in travel distances to Saudi Arabia, which directly influence aviation fuel costs. Intending pilgrims from Kwara State, which falls under the Northern zone, will pay ₦8,457,685.59. For comparison, the fare for pilgrims from the Borno and Adamawa zones has been set at ₦8,327,125.59, while those from the Southern states will pay ₦8,784,085.59. Alhaji Salman stressed that the disparity reflects logistical realities and ensures equitable cost distribution across the country. The Commissioner who stated this in Ilorin today while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, appreciated the Executive Governor of Kwara State Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his untiring support in the provision of necessary facilities needed to stop indiscriminate dumping of waste. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, has charged Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Supervisors (TBLS) and other relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts at ending tuberculosis at the grassroots, to ensure the healthy living of people at rural communities and Kwara State at large.  The Commissioner gave this charge during the week, at the Quarterly Review Meeting of Kwara State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, held at the Ministry Headquarters, Fate, Ilorin, the state capital. MAINTENANCE: AGBA DAM WATERWORKS TO GO ON SKELETAL OPERATION

Following the maintenance activities set to be carried out on Agba Dam Water Works, by Kwara State Water Corporation (KWWC), Ilorin, with a view to improving the supply of potable water to members of the public, the corporation will temporarily embark on skeletal services of the dam forthwith. The General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Gana Makun, stated this at the Agba-Dam Water Treatment Plant, during an inspection tour of the facility, to assess the ongoing repairs.   Makun stressed that the reconstruction of the high lift pump base and the high-lift pump panels which got burnt as a result of electrical sparks, has become necessary, for the facility to pump water effectively.   He noted that, "the maintenance exercise, which commenced since Friday, 10th January 2025, is expected to last for about two (2) weeks, after which it will be fully operational, hopefully by early February, due to the nature and sensitivity of the work being carried out, espec...
