KWARA GOVT WARNS TRADERS AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

The Kwara State government in its continued stride to ensure a clean and green environment, has warned traders against environmental pollution and indiscriminate dumping of refuse in markets to safe guard the health and wellness of citizens.   The Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hajia Idayat Folorunsho, stated this during the Thursday routine environmental exercise in major markets within Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. Hajia Folorunsho, who noted the State government's efforts at ensuring a clean and healthy environment, insisted that such efforts should be complemented by traders through consistent sanitary measures and proper evacuation of wastes in the markets. The Kwara State Government has once again reiterated its commitment to strengthening the procurement processes at the Local government level to ensure accountability and transparency. The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullah Abubakar Bata stated this during an interactive meeting between the officials of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency and all the Executive Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the State. The Commissioner disclosed that the meeting was imperative to ensure due process in the procurement procedure at the Councils. . ..As it warns traders against indiscriminate dumping of refuse*  The Kwara State Ministry of Environment has explained the reasons for the temporary sealing of the trading areas within the GRA popularly referred to as the 'Yoruba Road Market' on Thursday. Explaining on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla stated that the traders acted contrary to the environmental laws that were made known to them more than six months ago. The Commissioner noted that the traders were sabotaging government's efforts at eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road medians. In a bid to discourage "Japa" syndrome in the State, Kwara State Government has assured that its working round the clock to discourage the surge in migration of medical practitioners, from the state to other countries, in search of better means of livelihoods. KWSG Directs Full Implementation of Monthly Sanitation at LGAs

The Kwara State Government, has directed the Chairmen in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to replicate a full fledge and effective environmental sanitation excercise, in each of their respective local government, with immediate effect. The Commissioner for Environment Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, gave this directive in Ilorin today, as part of the information passed to the Pre-Sanitation exercise forum, in her office. The Commissioner who had earlier appreciated the tremendous achievements of the ministry in the past year, noted that; "now that we have a well constituted leadership structure at the grassroots, it is therefore expected that the 16 Local Government Areas will strategies, to ensure compliance with the sanitary laws and restrictions of both vehicular and human movements during the 3 hours period of the monthly sanitation exercise'. CAILS Certificates Are Acceptable Nationwide, Says Provost

The management of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, has said that the institution’s certificate is acceptable for direct entry in Nigerian and international higher institutions. Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday, the acting provost of the college, Dr Sa’ad Hadi, explained that the inability of some students to register for JAMB direct entry last year was due to new policies introduced by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in its efforts to make certificates being presented for direct entry admission uniform and sanitised. The Kwara State government has again re-affirmed its commitment to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for citizens, through routine and thorough inspection of areas within the metropolis to ensure strict compliance with environmental rules and regulations. The Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hajia Idayat Folorunsho stated this during an inspection visit to some areas known for environmental violations in Ilorin. The General Manager who was represented by the KWEPA team leader, Sanitary Inspector, Nusirat Temitope Oyewole, reiterated the need for citizens to embrace hygienic lifestyles and cautioned them against harmful environmental practices. In a bid to combat open defecation and improve public health, the Kwara State Government in collaboration with the Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) have reaffirmed their commitment to creating an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) State. The Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yinusa Lade, who was represented by the General Manager of RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Adewumi Oladipo today called for collaborative efforts of all citizens at just concluded stakeholders' engagement, aimed at achieving the goal, particularly in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of the State. Kwara Monthly Environmental Sanitation holds on Saturday

Members of the public are hereby informed that the Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise for the month of January will come up on Saturday 25th January, 2025 between the hours of seven o'clock and ten o'clock (7:00 am to 10:00 am) in the morning. Residents across the state are therefore enjoined to fully participate in the exercise, by cleaning both their residential and business environments. The statement warned members of the public that there will be no vehicular and human movements across the state, during the exercise.
