The Kwara State government in its continued stride to ensure a clean and green environment, has warned traders against environmental pollution and indiscriminate dumping of refuse in markets to safe guard the health and wellness of citizens.   The Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Hajia Idayat Folorunsho, stated this during the Thursday routine environmental exercise in major markets within Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The Kwara State Government has once again reiterated its commitment to strengthening the procurement processes at the Local government level to ensure accountability and transparency. The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullah Abubakar Bata stated this during an interactive meeting between the officials of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency and all the Executive Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the State. In a bid to discourage "Japa" syndrome in the State, Kwara State Government has assured that its working round the clock to discourage the surge in migration of medical practitioners, from the state to other countries, in search of better means of livelihoods. The Kwara State Government, has directed the Chairmen in the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to replicate a full fledge and effective environmental sanitation excercise, in each of their respective local government, with immediate effect. The management of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, has said that the institution’s certificate is acceptable for direct entry in Nigerian and international higher institutions. Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday, the acting provost of the college, Dr Sa’ad Hadi, explained that the inability of some students to register for JAMB direct entry last year was due to new policies introduced by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in its efforts to make certificates being presented for direct entry admission uniform and sanitised. Members of the public are hereby informed that the Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise for the month of January will come up on Saturday 25th January, 2025 between the hours of seven o'clock and ten o'clock (7:00 am to 10:00 am) in the morning. Residents across the state are therefore enjoined to fully participate in the exercise, by cleaning both their residential and business environments.
