The Institute of Contemporary African Art & Film (ICAAF), Ilorin, will open its doors to the public on Monday, October 26, 2026, for a special commemorative performance, Fela — A Retrospective, celebrating the life and legacy of the legendary Nigerian musician and activist, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
According to a statement issued in Ilorin by the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, the exhibition, curated and produced by June Creative Art Advisory (JCAA), will run until December 31, 2026, with free admission to the public.
The exhibition will feature photographs, archival materials, music, film and historical objects highlighting Fela’s contributions to Afrobeat, art and social thought, including his historic performance at the Niger Hotel, Ilorin, on August 30, 1971.
The initiative will also feature guided tours, school visits and workshops designed to expose young people and the general public to creative disciplines, promote cultural heritage and support the development of Kwara State’s creative economy.
The exhibition is expected to inspire emerging creatives by showcasing how music, art, film, design and other creative disciplines can serve as tools for self-expression, cultural preservation and social change.
According to the Commissioner for Communications, the exhibition aligns with the vision of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for a Kwara State that continues to harness its cultural heritage, creative talent and tourism potential as drivers of development.
