Kwara State Government Approves 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Schools

The Kwara State Government has officially approved the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the approval on Wednesday at the Ministry's headquarters in Ilorin.

According to the approved schedule, the 2026/2027 academic session will run across three terms, with resumption dates, midterm breaks, closing dates and holiday periods clearly outlined for schools across the state.

Below is the detailed academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session:

Approved Academic Calendar for 2026/2027 Academic Session

1st Term:

  • Resumption Date: Monday, 21st September 2026
  • Midterm Break: Thursday, 22nd – Friday, 23rd October 2026
  • Closing Date: Friday, 18th December 2026
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Holiday: Monday, 21st December 2026 – Friday, 8th January 2027 (3 weeks)

2nd Term:

  • Resumption Date: Monday, 11th January 2027
  • Midterm Break: Thursday, 18th – Friday, 19th February 2027
  • Closing Date: Friday, 2nd April 2027
  • Duration: 12 weeks
  • Holiday: Monday, 5th April – Friday, 23rd April 2027 (3 weeks)

3rd Term:

  • Resumption Date: Monday, 26th April 2027
  • Midterm Break: Thursday, 10th – Friday, 11th June 2027
  • Closing Date: Friday, 30th July 2027
  • Duration: 14 weeks
  • Holiday: Monday, 2nd August – Friday, 17th September 2027 (7 weeks)

The approved calendar also provides the resumption and first-term dates for the 2027/2028 academic session.

1st Term:

  • Resumption Date: Monday, 20th September 2027
  • Midterm Break: Thursday, 30th – Friday, 31st October 2027
  • Closing Date: Friday, 17th December 2027
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Holiday: Monday, 20th December 2027 – Friday, 7th January 2028 (3 weeks)

Important Notes

All public and private schools are expected to comply with the approved academic calendar or face appropriate sanctions.

Boarders are to resume on the Sunday preceding the resumption date for each term of the session.

National and public holidays should be observed accordingly.

Kwara, WHO Develop Costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework

The Kwara State Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has commenced a three-day workshop to develop the State Health Promotion Strategic Framework Costed Implementation Plan aimed at strengthening health promotion interventions and improving public health outcomes across the state.
