KWSG, NAFDAC Partner for Quality Water Service Delivery

The Kwara State Government has discussed possible means to collaborate with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to ensure that producers of table and sachet water deliver quality services as well as safe and drinkable water for all residents in the state.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, stated this recently during a courtesy visit paid to NAFDAC office in Ilorin by the Management of the Ministry.

The Commissioner stressed that the collaboration has become necessary in order to ensure that water producers comply with the rules and regulations guiding water producing sector across the state.

Hon. Lade explained that the state government needs to regulate the activities of the producers and safeguard the environment for human and animal inhabitants.

"We have seen the need to establish mutual collaboration and understanding with the State Ministry of Water Resources and the State Chapter of NAFDAC so as to achieve the desire goal," he said.

The Commissioner pointed out that the state government will collect a comprehensive database of water producers to know those who have registered with the Ministry and paid their revenue up to date and those who usually invade payment in the sector, while commending the efforts of the Agency at combating fake drug recently in Lagos and Anambra states respectively.

Responding, the Coordinator, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, Pharmacist Nadabo Nathan, said that the Agency has the mandate by the Act that established it to regulate what people consume with a view to safeguarding lives.

Pharmacist Nathan noted that the Agency has done a lot in the state and the country in general, adding that it will continue to do more across board.

The State Coordinator pledged the Agency's readiness to partner with the state government within the armpit of the law to see that the right thing is done in the state, explaining that the call for the collaboration was a laudable initiative to ensure smooth operation between them.

He stated that the Agency will consider ways to get a comprehensive database of water producers as requested for proper regulations, describing water as a substance without enemy and disclosed that the Agency is always conscious of the sources of water the producers treat and supply to the consumers in the state.
