Kwara Students urged to shun social vices

The Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Mopelola Abdulmaliq-Bashir, has reiterated the need for sensitisation on violence against women and children.
Abdulmaliq-Bashir made this known today during a continued sensitisation tour of the Ministry to Molete Community, Moro Local Government and Kwara State Polytechnic.

She disclosed that there are rules binding child slavery and violence, and there will be no excuse of ignorance for erring people.

The Commissioner stated that students should shun all forms of societal vices and be good ambassadors of the School and State while also urging everyone to be an advocate of the girl-child wellbeing.

"Our society is filled with all sorts of unscrupulous activities and youths have been found to be at the core of drug abuse and sexual violence, and this has eaten deep into our society. We need to work together to put a stop to it," she said.
In another development, The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Mopelola Abdulmaliq-Bashir, has reaffirmed the government's intolerance on abuse and violence on women and children. She said this during a radio programme in Ilorin today. 

Abdulmaliq-Bashir appreciated the government of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his women-inclusion policy in the cabinet.

She also advised female students to stop the act of cohabitating with their male counterparts also termed 'couples life' which is portrayed in most institutions, as this will reduce their self esteem.

On the issue of rape, she stated that the Ministry is working assiduously with the State Government to curb the practice and bring all culprits to book. 

Barr. Jumoke Olaoye, the Co-ordinator Human Rights Commission, made it known that the commission is there to protect the right of everyone, and erring people will definitely be brought to book. 

She also advised anybody going through any emotional torture to call the service line which was made available.
