Kwara Government Reaffirms Commitment to Workers' Welfare, Fiscal Sustainability and Inclusive Development

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of workers and pensioners while sustaining prudent financial management, economic growth, and inclusive development across the State.

The Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, stated that the administration of Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has continued to place the welfare of workers at the center of its governance agenda through prompt payment of salaries and pensions, progressive welfare policies, and sound public financial management.

According to Dr. Nuru, one of the defining achievements of the present administration has been its commitment to restoring confidence in the State's public finances while ensuring that workers receive their entitlements as and when due.

"Since assuming office, His Excellency has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners. The administration cleared inherited salary and pension backlogs and has maintained a strong record of timely payment of salaries and pensions. Today, salary administration in Kwara State is guided by transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline."

She noted that, beyond prompt salary payments, the administration has consistently implemented policies to improve the living standards of public servants. These include the implementation of the new minimum wage, consequential salary adjustments, the 30% Peculiar Allowance for eligible public servants, upward reviews of sector-specific allowances, and other welfare initiatives designed to motivate the workforce and enhance service delivery.

The Commissioner explained that the Government has continued to strengthen the State's public financial management systems through payroll reforms, digitalisation, and improved verification processes to ensure that public resources are managed efficiently and that salaries are paid accurately to eligible employees.

She stated that salary administration follows an established process led by the Office of the Accountant-General. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance provides oversight to ensure transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds.

"Our payroll reforms are designed to strengthen the integrity of the system, eliminate irregularities, protect public resources, and ensure that every genuine employee receives their rightful entitlement promptly. These reforms are in the best interest of both workers and the State."

Dr. Nuru also highlighted the introduction of the State Staff Identification Number (SSID) as a key reform to enhance payroll integrity and improve the quality of personnel records across the public service.

She encouraged all civil servants who are yet to complete the registration process to do so promptly, noting that the exercise is intended to strengthen efficiency, accountability, and service delivery within the public service.

Beyond workers' welfare, the Commissioner said the administration has made significant progress in strengthening the State's economy through prudent fiscal management, improved internally generated revenue, digital transformation of government services, and strategic reforms that have enhanced the ease of doing business in Kwara State.

She noted that the State has continued to attract performance-based funding and development support through programmes such as SABER, NG-CARES, and the HOPE Programme, reflecting the confidence of development partners’ confidence in the State's reform agenda.

According to her, these resources are being channeled into critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, social protection, and institutional reforms, to improve the quality of life for citizens and stimulate sustainable economic growth.

"Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration has demonstrated that prudent financial management and workers' welfare can go hand in hand. Through disciplined fiscal management, transparency, and strategic reforms, the Government continues to invest in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and social development while ensuring that workers remain motivated and adequately supported."

The Commissioner commended the dedication and professionalism of civil servants across the State and urged them to continue supporting the administration's reform initiatives through commitment, productivity, and adherence to established procedures.

She reaffirmed the Government's commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with organised labour and all stakeholders in the collective pursuit of a more efficient public service and a more prosperous Kwara State.

"Our vision is to build a stronger, more prosperous Kwara where fiscal responsibility translates into better infrastructure, improved public services, enhanced workers' welfare, and greater opportunities for all citizens. We remain committed to responsible governance, transparency, and policies that will continue to drive sustainable growth and development."

Ministry of Social Development, KW-IRS Conduct Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement on Creche Registration Compliance

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), has conducted a two-day Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement Exercise on Crèche Registration Compliance across the Ilorin metropolis.
