KWSG, OCDI, Actionaid Nigeria, Organise Consultative Forum to Shape State Gender Policy

The Kwara State Government in collaboration with Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI) and Actionaid Nigeria through Global Affairs Canada has organised a consultative forum for the development of Gender Policy in the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, stated this on Monday during a programme held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry, noting that the development of a Gender Policy is not merely a government exercise but an investment in the future of women, girls, men, boys, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Chief Afolashade, who was represented by the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji Rasheed Baba Ubandawaki, explained that all groups of persons in the communities will be able to participate meaningfully in the economic, social and political development of the state.

The Commissioner explained that the initiative is consistent with the inclusive governance of the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose administration has consistently championed equity, inclusion and empowerment of Women and vulnerable populations.

Speaking on the benefit of the Gender Policy,  the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji Baba Rasheed Ubandawaki, who was represented by the Director, Women Development Department, Hajia Medinat Idris, explained that the policy will serve as a guide for the operational activities of government institutions and stakeholders in promoting gender responsive governance and development.

Alhaji Ubandawaki encouraged participants to contribute actively and constructively to the discussion because the quality and effectiveness of the final policy document will depend largely on the richness of their contribution.

The Executive Director, Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), Mrs Oluwatoni Adeleke-Olubitan, who was also represented by the Program Manager, Miss Blessing Akanbi, emphasized the need for the continuous protection of the rights of women and girls, regardless of their status, noting that this informed the decision to develop a Gender Policy for the state.

Explaining the benefit of the policy, Mrs Adeleke-Olubitan said the policy will help improve the lives of women, promote gender equality and social inclusion in education, health, politics as well as reduce gender based violence in our communities.

Ministry of Social Development, KW-IRS Conduct Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement on Creche Registration Compliance

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), has conducted a two-day Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement Exercise on Crèche Registration Compliance across the Ilorin metropolis. The exercise, which took place from June 23 to 24, 2026, was aimed at ensuring compliance with crèche registration requirements among schools and childcare centres providing services for children between the ages of 0 and 6 years. Speaking on the exercise, the Honourable Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, stated that all operators of crèche facilities are required to register with the Ministry and renew their registration annually in accordance with the regulations. IVTEC-KWSG Empowers Youths Under the 2024/2025 Employment Generation Scheme

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College, (IVTEC), Ajase Ipo, has  commenced batch 8 of the year 2024/2025 admission of Youths Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme.  The Rector of the College, Engr. (Dr.) Yaru Salihu stated this in Ajase Ipo today in a press statement issued from his office. According to the Rector, the programme which is being sponsored by the Kwara State Government is aimed at promoting a viable and skills acquisition training, to increase the effectiveness of government efforts at combating poverty and youth unemployment.
