Kwara Rescues Vulnerable Persons With Mental Health Conditions From Street

The Kwara State Government has carried out a special intervention to remove vulnerable persons with mental health conditions from major streets and public places across Ilorin metropolis as part of its ongoing efforts to promote public safety, environmental sanitation, and the welfare of vulnerable persons.

The operation was carried out on Monday by officers of the Ministry of Social Development in collaboration with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders, leading to the successful rescue of several persons with mental health conditions from various locations within the metropolis.

Speaking on the exercise, the Honourable Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, charged the officers to conduct the operation professionally, humanely, and with the utmost respect for the dignity and rights of the affected persons.
The Commissioner said the intervention reflects the commitment of the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring they receive the care, treatment, rehabilitation, and support they require.

She explained that the operation was not intended to punish or stigmatise anyone but to remove vulnerable individuals from unsafe environments and facilitate their access to appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and, where possible, reunification with their families.

Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam noted that the increasing presence of persons with mental health conditions on highways, in markets, and other public places poses significant safety risks to both the affected individuals and members of the public.
She added that the Ministry would continue to intensify similar rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration exercises in line with its mandate to protect vulnerable groups and promote social welfare across the state.

The Commissioner appealed to residents of Kwara State to partner with the Ministry by promptly reporting cases of abandoned, homeless, or other vulnerable persons in need of urgent social intervention.

She reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a safer, healthier, more inclusive, and compassionate society where the dignity, well-being, and rights of every citizen are protected.

Ministry of Social Development, KW-IRS Conduct Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement on Creche Registration Compliance

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), has conducted a two-day Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement Exercise on Crèche Registration Compliance across the Ilorin metropolis. The exercise, which took place from June 23 to 24, 2026, was aimed at ensuring compliance with crèche registration requirements among schools and childcare centres providing services for children between the ages of 0 and 6 years. The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College, (IVTEC), Ajase Ipo, has  commenced batch 8 of the year 2024/2025 admission of Youths Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme.  The Rector of the College, Engr. (Dr.) Yaru Salihu stated this in Ajase Ipo today in a press statement issued from his office.
