Kwara Govt Harps on Security, Charges Transport Unions on Data Compliance

The Kwara State Government has called on transport union leaders to ensure full compliance with the ongoing Kwara State Residents Registration exercise among their members, particularly commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

The call was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, during an emergency security stakeholders' meeting held at the Ministry's headquarters in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Korasabi reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing security challenges and safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the residents' registration exercise remains a vital component of the state's strategy to enhance security and support effective law enforcement.
Expressing concern over the influx of unidentified motorcycle operators into the State of Harmony, the Commissioner noted that the development comes at a critical time when parts of the state are confronting security challenges. 

He stressed that compliance with the data capture exercise being conducted by the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency (KWASRRA) would assist security agencies in distinguishing genuine transport operators from criminal elements disguising themselves as commercial riders.

Hon. Korasabi explained that although residents' registration is the statutory responsibility of KWASRRA, security consciousness remains the civic responsibility of every citizen.

"As bona fide citizens of Kwara State, we must not leave issues of security solely to government security agencies. Security is a collective responsibility that must be taken seriously and addressed decisively," the Commissioner said.

He commended the cordial relationship and unwavering cooperation among transport unions in the state under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, urging them to sustain their support as the government intensifies efforts to safeguard lives and property, which he described as non-negotiable.

Speaking on the security situation, the Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters, Hon. Aliyu Muyideen, praised the state government's sustained efforts in addressing security concerns. 

He disclosed that motorcycle operations continue in Kwara largely because of Governor AbdulRazaq's compassion over the prevailing economic realities and the potential social implications that a total ban could create.

He, however, urged all motorcycle and tricycle operators to comply fully with the latest government directives while carrying out their daily activities in the interest of protecting the people of Kwara and preserving the state's long-standing reputation as the State of Harmony.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Ibrahim Orire, commended the Ministry for its proactive response to the prevailing security situation. 

He advocated stricter enforcement of the existing 9:00 p.m. closing time for motorcycle operations.

"We still need to reinforce the operational closing time for motorcycle operators as we previously had, in order to further sanitize the state against banditry and other criminal elements infiltrating Kwara," he stated.

Orire also urged transport union leaders to develop effective intelligence-sharing mechanisms and strengthen communication among their zonal leaders across the sixteen local government areas of the state.

In their separate remarks, the heads of the Vehicle Inspection Unit (VIU) and KWARTMA highlighted notable security successes recorded by their agencies and proposed additional measures, including the introduction of route identification for transport operators, which they said would further strengthen efforts to combat insecurity in the state.

The Chairman of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, Hon. Azeez Arisekola, commended the residents' registration initiative for commercial motorcycle operators and announced the unanimous decision of transport unions to partner with the government to ensure the success of the exercise. 

He urged all transport operators to embrace the process as it would help properly identify genuine operators and protect them from unnecessary suspicion.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Abdulrasaq Ariwoola, and the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji AbdulRahman Olayinka Onikijipa, assured the government of their full support and pledged to mobilise their members for total compliance.

The meeting which attracted representatives of major security agencies, including the Kwara State Police Command, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Kwara Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and other relevant stakeholders, concluded with a renewed commitment by the Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, and transport union leaders to continue working together to strengthen security and promote peaceful coexistence across Kwara State.

Ministry of Social Development, KW-IRS Conduct Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement on Creche Registration Compliance

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), has conducted a two-day Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement Exercise on Crèche Registration Compliance across the Ilorin metropolis. The exercise, which took place from June 23 to 24, 2026, was aimed at ensuring compliance with crèche registration requirements among schools and childcare centres providing services for children between the ages of 0 and 6 years. The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College, (IVTEC), Ajase Ipo, has  commenced batch 8 of the year 2024/2025 admission of Youths Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme.  The Rector of the College, Engr.
