KWARA GOVT PUSHES FOR STUDENTS' INVOLVEMENT IN AGRICULTURE

Guided by the vision of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, to strengthen food security, promote environmental stewardship, and empower stakeholders, the Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, is intensifying efforts to equip students with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed for self-sufficiency.

The Commissioner, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, reaffirmed this commitment during an official visit by the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Hon. Wasiu Onidugbe, to his office at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development yesterday. 

Discussions focused on integrating students into the state’s agricultural development agenda as a strategic approach to boosting food production and expanding economic opportunities. This initiative falls under the Kwara Next Generation Farmers programme, which is part of Pillar 5 (Value Chain) of the Kwara State Agricultural Transformation Plan, aimed at nurturing a new generation of agripreneurs and strengthening the agricultural value chain.

Dr. Abolore emphasized that the Ministry will take deliberate steps to equip students with practical agricultural skills, ensuring they become self-sufficient before completing their education. As part of this strategy, cluster farming will be introduced to provide hands-on experience, while a reward system will be implemented to encourage commitment and excellence.

"Our youths are the future of agriculture in Kwara. By engaging them early, we are not only securing food production but also creating viable career paths in the sector," he stated.

In his remarks, Hon. Wasiu Onidugbe congratulated Dr. Abolore on his appointment and commended his visionary approach in prioritizing youths engagement. He assured the Commissioner of his full support in making the initiative a success, emphasizing the importance of structured training programmes.

As Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq continues to champion policies that uplift communities and ensure a prosperous, sustainable legacy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development remains committed to fostering sustainable agricultural practices while creating economic opportunities for students and youths.

Kwara TESCOM releases CBT results, to announce cutoffs ahead of interview, screenings

Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) said applicants for the public school teaching jobs can now check the results of the CBT done earlier on Saturday.  TESCOM Chairman Mallam Bello Taoheed said all the applicants who sat the test can access their results on the portal. "This is the first step after the exams. The Commission will soon release the cutoffs that would determine the candidates who proceed to the interview stage, among other things," he said. "At the end of the CBT, a total of 8,529 sat and completed the exam across the centres. The breakdowns are as follows: COED Ilorin, 2,891; Ilorin West LGA, 1,991; UNILORIN, 1,677; Lafiagi, 812; Offa, 586; Oko, 297; Patigi, 275. A total of 9,459 applicants had been invited for the CBT across the seven centres. The remaining applicants did not show up for the exercise. •Urges applicants to adhere to rules spelt out in initial statement •Portal opens Wednesday, 5th February - Friday, 14th February, 2025 The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has released the application link for its teaching job openings. Interested and qualified individuals can apply through: https://tescom.kwarastate.gov.ng . The link will go live at 12 midnight on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, and will close on Friday, February 14th, 2025.
