DOI CHARGES PRESS SECRETARIES/INFORMATION OFFICERS ON NEWS REPORTING

The Kwara State Director of Information Services, Ministry of Communications, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere, has charged Press Secretaries and Information Officers in the state civil service, to employ the set standard for news writing, to ensure that the in-house style of the Ministry is followed, to prevent the corruption of the acceptable standard of news writing.

Alhaji Atere gave the charge this week, during the monthly directorate meeting and in-house training for Press Secretaries/Information Officers, held at the Ministry’s Conference room, GRA, Ilorin, the State Capital, adding that it was a proactive move to improve the news writing skills of Press Secretaries. 

Atere, who decried the lackadaisical attitude of some Press Secretaries towards news writing, stated that the Ministry would ensure that Press Secretaries have the wherewithal to enhance their productivity. 

He disclosed that the Ministry is organising the periodic training programme to help the Press Secretaries develop and improve their writing skills to project government activities, within and outside Kwara State.

In his own submission, the Director, Public Orientation, Alhaji Jimoh Salau, who corroborated the Director of Information's speech, reiterated the importance of proper news writing, stressing that each media outlet has their own in-house style of news writing, urging Press Secretaries to ensure adherence to the Ministry’s house style, which is not at variance with the standards of the print, electronic and social media outfits worldwide.

Earlier, the state Deputy Director of Information, Mr. Agboola Olarewaju, had retrained the Press Secretaries/Information Officers on the ministry's house style of writing news. 

He explained that there can never be a compromise in the process, saying the process of proper news writing is considered the standard and best practice generally. 

The Press Secretary, office of the Head of Service, Mr. Muritala Atoyebi, also stressed the need for Press Secretaries to be proactive in the discharge of their duties, as image makers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies they are l posted to serve. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry's Staff Officer, Pastor Micheal Ajayi seized the opportunity to also call on members and staff to ensure they are at their various duty posts promptly to justify their wages, which is paid as and when due by the state government.

Pastor Ajayi, who hammered on punctuality to work, warned of dire consequences for lateness and truancy as stated in the Civil Service Rules.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
