KWSG COMMITMENT TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY THROUGH NG-CARES PROGRAM

The Kwara State Government in its dedicated effort to combat poverty and address the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals, groups, and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, recently hosted a mid-term review meeting for the NG-CARES programme.The primary objective of the meeting was to gather feedback and additional information about the programme, as well as to strategize on how to enhance its impact and effectiveness.

The Commissioner for Finance, Dr. (Mrs.) Hauwa Nuru, who addressed a team from the World Bank and the Federal Government Team at the  meeting, underscored the commitment of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to alleviating the suffering of the less privileged and vulnerable individuals, groups, and businesses affected by the pandemic through various social intervention programmes.

Dr. Nuru, who chairs the Steering Committee of NG-CARES in Kwara State, emphasized her dedication to re-strategizing to include more impoverished and vulnerable people into the programme and provide support across various sectors to enhance the standard of living and the general well-being of citizens.

The World Bank Task Team Leader for NG-CARES, Professor Foluso Okunmadewa urged the State Government to allocate more resources for the implementation of the programme, adding that the investment would yield better results and lift more poor and vulnerable groups out of poverty, which, in turn, would enable the State to access additional reimbursements from the World Bank. 

Professor Okunmadewa commended the proficient and experienced team members working diligently within the Kwara NG-CARES Team.

Mr. Aso Vapkoraye, Chairman of the Federal Government NG-CARES Technical Committee, stressed that the NG-CARES programme would significantly reduce poverty due to the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

He highlighted that performing States would receive support for the third phase of the programme, adding that the State Government should inject more funds into NG-CARES to enable them access funds through re-imbursement for more significant impact on the vulnerable groups.

The National Coordinator for NG-CARES, Dr. Abdulkareem Obaje, expressed appreciation for the leadership of the State Government and encouraged the State to allocate more resources to the programme to cover more grounds. 

Also speaking, Dr. Tejidini Olayinka, General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), praised the Governor for his unwavering commitment to uplifting the less privileged. He pointed out that NG-CARES has been an excellent platform for addressing the needs and aspirations of low-income citizens in the state.

Mr. Ibiyinka Olatunde, the State NG-CARES Coordinator, expressed his delight at hosting the leadership of NG-CARES, both from the World Bank and the Federal level, emphasizing the programme's positive impact in lifting poor and vulnerable households and businesses out of poverty in Kwara State.

The meeting included several key officials, including the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Mallam Aliyu Kora Sabi, the Commissioner for Social Development, Chief (Mrs) Afolashade Kemi, the Commissioner for Environment, Sheu Ndanusa, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mall. Folorunsho Abdulrasaq, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Umar Yakub Jaja and the State NG-CARES Coordinator and all Heads of NG-CARES Delivery Platforms.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
