Olukoju Seeks State Assembly Support to Revitalise State-Owned Media

In a determined effort to rejuvenate state-owned media, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, the Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, has sought the support and collaboration of the State House of Assembly to complement Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration’s efforts in adding value to the fourth estate of the realm.

Hon. Olukoju made this appeal during a meeting with members of the House Committee on Youths, Sports, Information, Culture, and Tourism, chaired by Hon. Rukayat Shittu, representing Owode-Onire Constituency, Asa Local Government Area, of the State.

In her address, Hon. Olukoju expressed appreciation for the Committee’s invitation and shared insights into Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration’s efforts to reposition the Ministry in order to overcome its challenges and ensure better prospects for the facilities.

She highlighted the significant progress in revamping state-owned media houses, such as the "availability of state-of-the-art facilities in some of our media houses", adding that "top priority attention would be given to addressing the challenges".

Additionally, Hon. Olukoju appealed for the House’s support, particularly in budget approvals, which are crucial for the Ministry’s success.

Earlier, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Rukayat Shittu, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to familiarise the House Committee with the Ministry, with the aim of understanding its challenges and determining where and when to offer support, emphasising the importance of effective communication.

Hon. Shittu also highlighted the urgency of addressing drug abuse in the state and suggested exploring innovative communication methods beyond traditional Outside Broadcasting Vans.

In a similar vein, Hon. Mohammed Kareem Musa, a member of the House Committee representing Patigi Local Government, affirmed the House’s unwavering support for the betterment of the entire state through collaboration with the Ministry.

Furthermore, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed sincere appreciation to the House Committee for extending the invitation, enabling a face-to-face discussion of the challenges faced by the Ministry.


In response to an inquiry regarding the Ministry’s efforts in combatting drug abuse, Mr Tajudeen Aremu, General Manager of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kwara), and Alhaji Ayobami Akanbi, General Manager of Kwara Television Authority, disclosed that they are already creating necessary awareness among the public through radio and television by broadcasting jingles and other informative programs.

Mr Yomi Adeboye, General Manager of the Herald Newspaper, also informed House Committee Members that The Herald newspaper is actively seeking further collaborative efforts with agencies such as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Ministry of Health to combat the menace of drug abuse, not only within the state but across Nigeria as a whole.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
