SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON THE ENFORCEMENT AT GERI ALIMI UNDERPASS

The attention of the Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) has been drawn to a trending video concerning its enforcement action on a billboard structure at the Geri Alimi Underpass. The Agency is concerned about the misleading narrative surrounding the exercise and wishes to clarify the issues.

The enforcement concerns the approval status of the structure and the operator’s outstanding obligations to the Agency. It was not directed at any political party or candidate.

Where a political party is directly responsible for a violation, the Agency formally communicates with that party. The  Kwara State chapter of the PDP can confirm that, following a previous incident involving damage to government infrastructure, the Agency wrote to the party and subsequently invited its representatives for discussions. That matter was handled through official channels without social media controversy.

The PDP and Eng. Kawu should therefore seek explanations from the operator from whom they rented the advertising space. A rental payment does not establish that a billboard structure has the necessary approvals or that its operator has fulfilled outstanding obligations.

To establish the facts, the relevant parties should seek clarification on the following:

1. Did the structure on which the banner was installed exist at that location a month before the enforcement?
2. Following the enforcement action on the operator’s other billboards over 4 months ago, has the operator fulfilled all outstanding obligations to the Agency?
3. Who approved the installation of the iron framework on the bridge?

The safety of residents and the protection of public infrastructure are non-negotiable. The iron framework was installed without the Agency’s approval or supervision. An improperly installed structure could endanger road users, and the Agency cannot ignore such risks.

KWASAA remains committed to carrying out its responsibilities fairly and consistently, regardless of the political affiliation of any advertiser. 

All political parties, candidates and other advertisers are advised to verify the approval status of advertising structures and the standing of their operators with the Agency before making payments or installing materials. This will help prevent avoidable disputes and disruption arising from enforcement.

Kwara, WHO Develop Costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus.
