KWSFCO, FFCA Meet to Strengthen Collaboration, Fine-Tune Fadama-CARES Implementation Arrangements

As the implementation of the Nigerian Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) 2.0 is about to kick off, the Kwara State Fadama CARES has played host to representatives of the Kwara State Federated Fadama Community Association (FFCA) to strengthen collaboration and fine-tune implementation arrangements for interventions.

Recall that the earlier NG-CARES (Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus) was to cushion the hardship experienced by farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Nigerian Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) 2.0 is to reinforce poor farmers' resilience after surviving the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Receiving the representatives of the State Federated Fadama Community Association (FFCA), the State Project Coordinator, Kwara Fadama CARES, Engr. Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, stated that the FFCA is the umbrella body representing all Farmers' Community Associations (FCAs) under the Fadama programme across the state.

Stressing the significance of the presence of recognised farmer representatives during programme activities, Busari explained that the necessity is part of the reviewed programme implementation strategy to improve coordination, transparency, accountability, and effective disbursement of interventions to beneficiaries.

He further noted that the fine-tuning is particularly relevant to beneficiary-related and disbursement exercises to promote accountable implementation and farmers' participation.

"Strengthening the Kwara State Federated Fadama Community Association, and designating the society as the umbrella body and representative platform for all participating Farmers' Community Associations across Kwara State, will enable it to effectively discharge its responsibilities. This step will also solve the administrative difficulty encountered by the State Fadama Coordination Office as a result of the large number and geographical spread of FCAs across the state," declared the Coordinator.

Busari, however, emphasised that the FFCA's roles do not usurp the identity, ownership, responsibilities, or beneficial interests of the individual FCAs.

He then highlighted the responsibilities of the participating Farmers' Community Associations, which include identifying their needs; validating their beneficiaries; approving their CARPs; confirming their required interventions and quantities; and authorising procurement arrangements, among others.

While responding, the Chairman of the Kwara State Federated Fadama Community Association, Alhaji Sallala Yakubu, expressed appreciation to the State Project Coordinator, disclosing the readiness of the members to beef up the association.

Yakubu, who accepted the revised arrangements, pledged the association's cooperation in the interest of farmers in the state.

The high points of the event included the introduction of the newly elected Chairman of FFCA and other executives, as well as consideration of a Memorandum of Understanding spelling out the relationship and responsibilities of the parties under the assisted and consolidated procurement arrangement.

Ahmed Muritala Olatunji; Community Development Officer, Dr. Adeyemi Adebukola; Technical Officer (Assets), Hajia Abdulmalik Ramat; Safeguard Officer, Mrs. Akogun Aisha A.; Project Accountant, Mr. Dauda A.; the Treasurer of FFCA, Mrs. Romoke Adewole; the Secretary, FFCA, Mr. Mohammed Alapa; Mrs. Funke Ojomu; and others.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus.
