Kwara Health Worker of the Month: HMB Recognises Afon General Hospital Matron

The Kwara State Government has recognised the Matron of Afon General Hospital, Elder I. O. Jeremiah, as its Health Worker of the Month for his exceptional dedication, professionalism and longstanding commitment to patient care and service to humanity.

Presenting the award at Afon General Hospital yesterday, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KW-HMB), Dr Abdulraheem Malik, said the recognition was a reward for hard work and a deliberate initiative by the Board to promote excellence, dedication and professionalism among healthcare workers across the state.

“On behalf of the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq CON, I hereby present to you this month’s Outstanding Employee Award in recognition of your dedication and commitment over the years to the service of humanity and the good people of Kwara State," Executive Secretary said.

He described the award as more than a recognition of an individual, noting that it was also a celebration of the values of commitment, diligence, professionalism and selfless service.

Dr Malik said the Board was committed to ensuring that healthcare workers who distinguish themselves through dedication and excellence are identified and appreciated.

“We want our staff to know that dedication to duty does not go unnoticed. This recognition is our way of appreciating those who consistently demonstrate commitment and excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities,” he added.

The Executive Secretary reaffirmed that the Board would continue to create an environment where excellence is recognised and rewarded, stressing that a motivated workforce is essential to quality healthcare delivery.

“When our staff are motivated, our patients benefit. We will continue to create an environment where excellence is recognised and rewarded, because quality healthcare begins with a committed workforce,” he said.

Dr Malik urged other healthcare workers across the Board’s facilities to emulate Elder Jeremiah and remain committed to providing quality and patient-centred healthcare services.

Responding, Elder I.O. Jeremiah expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government and management of KW-HMB for the recognition, describing the award as a major encouragement to continue giving his best in the service of patients and the people of Kwara State.

He pledged to sustain his commitment to duty and continue working collaboratively with other members of staff to further improve healthcare services at General Hospital Afon.

The KW-HMB stated that the Outstanding Employee Award would remain an important component of its staff motivation strategy, aimed at promoting excellence, accountability, professionalism and patient-centred service delivery across the state’s healthcare facilities.

Kwara, WHO Develop Costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework

The Kwara State Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has commenced a three-day workshop to develop the State Health Promotion Strategic Framework Costed Implementation Plan aimed at strengthening health promotion interventions and improving public health outcomes across the state. Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus.
