KWSPHCDA, Partners Train 193 Health Workers on Key Nutrition Interventions

The Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), in collaboration with Vitamin Angels and other development partners, has trained 193 health workers from across the Local Government Areas of the state on key nutrition interventions aimed at improving maternal, infant and young child nutrition.

The two-day capacity-building programme, held on August 5 and 6, 2026, in Ilorin, brought together Officers-in-Charge of Primary Health Care Centres, Nutrition Focal Persons, Nutrition Technicians and other frontline health workers to strengthen their knowledge and skills in delivering quality nutrition services.

Addressing the participants, the Executive Secretary of the KWSPHCDA, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, underscored the critical role of nutrition in promoting healthy growth and development throughout the life cycle.

Represented by the Director of Primary Health Care Systems, Dr. Michael Oguntoye, Prof. Elelu urged the participants to make the most of the training by applying the knowledge acquired in their respective health facilities and ensuring that the lessons are cascaded to other relevant health workers.

She assured them of the Agency’s commitment to continuous capacity building through regular training and retraining programmes to keep health workers abreast of global best practices in primary health care service delivery.

A representative of Vitamin Angels, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adebayo, facilitated a session on Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) during pregnancy, where she highlighted the importance of adequate maternal nutrition for healthy pregnancy outcomes. 

She also took participants through the identification and diagnosis of anaemia in pregnant women, as well as appropriate treatment and prescription protocols.

The State Nutrition Officer, Dr. Gbenga Bankole, delivered a presentation on Optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), emphasizing the need for appropriate feeding practices to support healthy growth, development and the attainment of developmental milestones in children.

Other facilitators from the KWSPHCDA also delivered sessions on breastfeeding counselling skills, maternal nutrition, growth monitoring and promotion, and other key nutrition interventions designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes across the state.

The training formed part of activities commemorating the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week and reflects the commitment of the Kwara State Government and its partners to strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers to provide quality nutrition services at the primary health care level.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
