Kwara to Upscale In-House Training for Civil Servants as Planning Officers’ Training Ends with Call for Improved Budget Planning

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening in-house training for civil servants to enhance their capacity, productivity and efficiency in service delivery.

The Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Kwara State, Dr. Mrs. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, stated this at the closing ceremony of a three-day capacity-building workshop organised for planning officers in the state civil service.
The training, held at De Peace Hotel Conference Centre, Tanke, Ilorin, focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge and practical skills in budget planning, preparation and defence.

Dr. Shittu expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State for approving funds for the training, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to continuous human capital development in the civil service.

She said the positive feedback from participants showed that the workshop had achieved its objectives, assuring that similar capacity-building programmes would be sustained.

“This is not going to be the last. We will upscale in-house training. This is an opportunity to train the untrained, and we want you to demonstrate this when you get to your various ministries,” she said.
The Acting Head of Service explained that the training became necessary following observed gaps in budget submissions by planning officers across ministries, noting that effective budget preparation was essential to achieving government’s development objectives.

She commended the resource persons for addressing critical aspects of budget planning, preparation and defence, describing the workshop as an eye-opener that combined theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.

Dr. Shittu challenged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in their respective ministries, particularly in preparing accurate and quality budget submissions.

She disclosed that she would visit various ministries to assess the practical application of the knowledge acquired by the participants and determine the impact of the training.

The Acting Head of Service stressed that such assessment would also help the government ascertain whether the resources invested in staff development were achieving the desired results.

She urged the participants to see themselves as ambassadors of the training and to share the knowledge gained with their colleagues, assuring that the state government would continue to invest in the development of its workforce.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
