Kwara State Agency for Mass Education Rolls Out Literacy by Radio Programme

      .....Distributes literacy, vocational materials to centres across state

The Kwara State Agency for Mass Education has officially commenced the implementation of the Literacy by Radio programme and the distribution of literacy and vocational materials to adult learning centres across the state, as part of the state government's commitment to promoting inclusive and lifelong learning.

The programme which will commence on Monday,10th August 2026, aimed at expanding access to literacy education by providing adult learners and out-of-school youths with the opportunity to acquire basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills through structured radio lessons, covering both rural and urban areas to bridge the gap of literacy in the state 

The Executive Director Agency for Mass Education, Mallam Saka Yusuf, disclosed that the programme would be aired on Radio Kwara Midland F.M 99.1 on Mondays and Thursdays of each week and will last for eight weeks

The Executive Director stated this during the roll out ceremony of literacy by radio programme and distribution of literacy and vocational tools held at the Agency's headquarters, Ilorin. 

He commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his people-oriented policies and sustained support for mass education in the state

Mallam Saka reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to supporting the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in ensuring that every resident has access to quality education, regardless of age or background 

"Literacy is the foundation for personal growth, economic empowerment, and community development. 

"Through the Literacy by Radio programme and the provision of learning materials, we are taking education closer to the people and creating more opportunities for adults and out-of-school youths to improve their lives through learning, and contribute meaningfully to the socio- economic development of the state," he stated. 

The Executive Director also called on community leaders, traditional institutions, development partners, and members of the public to support the initiative by encouraging eligible learners to participate actively in the programme, noting that education remains a shared responsibility and a key driver of sustainable development.

He further warned that, "These items must be used to impact lives positively, so adequate care and protection should also be provided, as the Agency will conduct regular monitoring visits to ensure proper utilization."

In her goodwill message, the Head of the Literacy Department, 

Mrs. Idowu Erioluwa, also commended the Governor for his unwavering support and lauded the Executive Director for introducing innovative programmes to strengthen the Agency.

She emphasized that education remains a vital tool for societal development, noting that lack of proper education contributes to crime and underdevelopment.

“Education is life. When people are properly educated, it reduces crime and enhances development,” she said, urging beneficiaries to make effective use of the materials.

Similarly, the Head of the Vocational Department, Mrs. Hanna Olanrewaju, encouraged learners to utilize the items provided to improve their skills and livelihoods.

In her vote of thanks, the Director of Programmes, Mrs. Fausat Alaya, appreciated all stakeholders and participants for their support and attendance at the event.
