Kwara Reaffirms Commitment to Strategic Partnership With UNFPA

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a strategic partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Nigeria to improve the lives of all residents in the state.

The Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mary Arinde, stated this on Tuesday during a special dinner hosted by the Ministry in honour of the UNFPA Country Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Muriel Mafico.

Welcoming the special guest and other dignitaries to the dinner, the Commissioner appreciated the strong synergy between the Kwara State Government and UNFPA, noting the significant contributions of the organisation to various development programmes across the state.

Dr. Arinde commended the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support and commitment to programmes implemented in partnership with UNFPA, stressing that such collaboration has continued to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development agenda.

She also appreciated the dedication and contributions of the staff of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, acknowledging their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation and coordination of development initiatives.

In her goodwill remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, expressed appreciation to UNFPA for its continued support to the state, particularly in the health sector.

Dr. El-Imam acknowledged the impact of UNFPA-supported programmes across the state and called for greater collaboration and support in the years ahead, while reiterating the commitment of the Ministry of Health to ensuring that the partnership continues to yield sustainable results for the people of Kwara State.

Earlier in her remarks, the UNFPA Country Representative, Ms. Muriel Mafico, expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development for the warm reception and the dinner organised in her honour.

Ms. Mafico described the gathering as an 
opportunity to reflect on the progress made through the partnership, celebrate the achievements of both parties and reaffirm their shared commitment to a sustainable and strategic relationship.

According to her, the occasion also provided an opportunity to appreciate the collaborative efforts of the state and UNFPA, while engaging on priorities, opportunities and areas of mutual interest for the future.

She appreciated the commitment of the Kwara State Government to development and expressed optimism that the partnership would continue to deepen and deliver greater impact across key sectors.

As part of the activities at the dinner, souvenirs were presented to members of the UNFPA as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication, support and continued contributions to the development of Kwara State.

The dinner was attended by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb.Shehu Ndanusa Usman; Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Mallam Abubarkar Abdullah Bata; Executive Secretary, Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Olubunmi Jatawo-Winter; Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof Nusirat Elelu; Directors and other senior officials of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

Kwara, WHO Develop Costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework

The Kwara State Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has commenced a three-day workshop to develop the State Health Promotion Strategic Framework Costed Implementation Plan aimed at strengthening health promotion interventions and improving public health outcomes across the state. Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Professor Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday from her office along Fate Road, Ilorin.
