Kwara hosts NFWP team, reinstates commitment to women empowerment

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving outstanding results under the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP), with the State determined to surpass the achievements recorded by other States through stronger collaboration, focused implementation and measurable results.

The Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, stated this while welcoming the Federal Project Team and the Ogun State delegation to Kwara for a peer-learning and implementation-support visit.

Dr. Nuru assured the visiting teams that Kwara State remains a peaceful and secure environment for development and investment, attributing the prevailing atmosphere to the purposeful leadership of the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, and his commitment to protecting lives and properties. 

The Commissioner commended the Nigeria for Women Programme for its continued support towards improving the economic and social wellbeing of women across participating states. 

She noted that the programme has already recorded positive outcomes in Kwara, with women and communities benefiting from interventions designed to strengthen livelihoods and promote economic participation.

She expressed confidence that Kwara has the capacity to surpass the achievements of other states, stressing that the State has the commitment, institutional capacity and political support required to deliver exceptional results.

“Every minute spent in Kwara must count. We must remain focused on our targets and work together to deliver measurable results. Although we started slowly, the results are now showing that we are making significant progress,” she said.

Dr. Nuru disclosed that the programme is currently being implemented in three Local Government Areas, with plans to expand to six Local Government Areas before the end of the year. 

She urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards achieving the programme's objectives and also called for regular progress reporting, timely approvals and stronger coordination among implementing partners while assuring the visiting team that the Kwara State Government remains open to constructive engagement, technical support and partnerships that will improve programme delivery.

 In his remarks, the Federal Task Team Lead, Mr. Michael Ilesanmi, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to improving the welfare and economic empowerment of women.

He described the Commissioner as a strong advocate and dependable voice for World Bank-supported programmes in the State, while commending her  for her strong commitment to the successful implementation of the Nigeria for Women Programme in Kwara State.

Mr. Ilesanmi noted that Kwara possesses significant potential that can be further harnessed through effective implementation of the programme. 

He expressed confidence that the State could emerge as a leading model for NFWP, stressing that the ultimate measure of success should be the number of women and communities whose lives are tangibly improved through the programme.

He assured the State Government of the continued support of the Federal Project Team and Ogun State delegation, emphasising that all stakeholders share a collective responsibility for the success of the programme.

 Mr. Ilesanmi encouraged Kwara to develop practical and results-oriented work plans capable of producing visible and measurable outcomes, describing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as one of the champions of the programme.

While sharing Implementation Experience, the Ogun State Team Lead, Mrs. Bolanle Olatomi Fadeiro, stressed the importance of ensuring that every resource committed to the programme translates into measurable value and impact.

She explained that Ogun State's implementation strategy places strong emphasis on direct engagement with women, including door-to-door mobilisation, supported by regular monthly progress reporting and monitoring.

Mrs. Fadeiro also commended the Kwara State Government for its commitment to advancing women's economic and social empowerment. 

She expressed optimism that the peer-learning engagement would enable both states to share practical experiences, strengthen implementation strategies and achieve better outcomes.

The peer-learning and implementation-support visit underscores the commitment of Kwara State and its partners to ensuring that the Nigeria for Women Programme delivers sustainable economic opportunities, stronger livelihoods and improved wellbeing for women across the State.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
