Kwara HMB Applauds Assembly’s Move to End Assaults on Health Workers

The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, has commended the Kwara State House of Assembly for its commitment to protecting healthcare workers through a proposed bill seeking to prevent and criminalise assaults on health workers in the state.

Dr. Malik gave the commendation in Ilorin at the weekend while reacting to the proposed bill seeking to curb and criminalise assaults on healthcare workers across health facilities in the state. 

The scribe of the board described the legislative initiative as a timely and commendable step towards creating a safer working environment for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and other healthcare professionals who dedicate themselves to providing essential services to the people of Kwara State.

Dr. Malik said the proposed legislation would send a strong message that violence and intimidation against healthcare workers would not be tolerated.

According to him, healthcare workers operate under demanding conditions and deserve an environment where they can discharge their responsibilities without fear of physical attacks, threats or harassment.

“We commend the Kwara State House of Assembly for this important initiative. Protecting healthcare workers is essential to protecting the healthcare system itself. When our health workers feel safe and protected, they are better positioned to provide quality and timely care to patients.”

The Executive Secretary further noted that assaults on healthcare workers not only affect the victims but can also disrupt hospital operations, undermine staff morale and negatively impact the quality of healthcare delivery.

He therefore urged all stakeholders, including patients, relatives, community leaders and healthcare workers, to support the proposed legislation and promote mutual respect within healthcare facilities.

He assured the people of Kwara State of the board’s continued commitment to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that healthcare facilities remain safe, professional and conducive environments for both patients and workers.

It would be recalled that the Kwara State House of Assembly had called for stronger measures to curb assaults and harassment of healthcare workers by patients’ relatives across healthcare facilities in the state.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Professor Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday from her office along Fate Road, Ilorin. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
