Kwara Govt Promotes Youths’ Shift from Job Seekers to Job Creators — Commissioner

The Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, to equipping young people with the skills, opportunities and support required to become economically productive and self-reliant.

The Commissioner stated this while featuring on the “Enact Hour” programme on Albarka FM, where he highlighted various youth-focused initiatives of the State Government in the areas of entrepreneurship, technology, agriculture, skills development and innovation.

Shehu explained that the Ministry of Youth Development was collaborating with relevant ministries, agencies and development partners to create sustainable opportunities for young people across different sectors.

Speaking on agriculture and agribusiness, the Commissioner noted that the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development and Livestock Development were playing important roles in creating opportunities for youths to participate in the agricultural value chain.

He, however, stressed that involvement in agriculture goes beyond physically cultivating the land, noting that youths could explore opportunities in processing, packaging, marketing, distribution and other aspects of the value chain.

Using cassava as an example, Amb. Ndanusa explained that a young person does not necessarily have to cultivate cassava to benefit from the sector. According to him, youths can purchase cassava and process it into various products, including flour and other value-added products.

He described this as value addition, stressing that it presents significant opportunities for young entrepreneurs to build businesses, create employment and contribute to the State’s economic development.

Amb. Ndanusa further emphasised the importance of inclusive youth development, stressing that opportunities should be accessible to young people across different backgrounds and interests, including women, persons with disabilities, students, rural youths and those interested in agriculture and agribusiness.

On the welfare of National Youth Service Corps members in the State, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC, highlighting recent interventions aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of corps members at the orientation camp.

He maintained that investing in young people remains central to the State Government’s development agenda, noting that empowering youths with relevant skills, resources and opportunities would contribute significantly to the economic growth and future prosperity of Kwara State.

The Commissioner therefore urged young people to take advantage of available opportunities, acquire relevant skills and embrace entrepreneurship, innovation and value creation rather than relying solely on Government or conventional white-collar employment.

Speaking on the political transition and the succession plan of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Amb. Ndanusa commended the Governor for his decision to support the emergence of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, as his preferred successor.

He described the Speaker as a youth with the requisite leadership experience, capacity and skills to provide effective leadership for the State, expressing confidence in his ability to build on the achievements of the present administration.

The Commissioner also appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for what he described as his deliberate commitment to youth inclusion in leadership, particularly his decision to support a younger generation to take up greater responsibilities in the governance of the State.

Kwara, WHO Develop Costed Health Promotion Strategic Framework

The Kwara State Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has commenced a three-day workshop to develop the State Health Promotion Strategic Framework Costed Implementation Plan aimed at strengthening health promotion interventions and improving public health outcomes across the state. Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus.
