Kwara ACReSAL Conducts Field Training for Extension Agents on Climate-Smart Agriculture

The Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL), in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), has conducted a field-based training on Climate-Smart Agriculture for Agricultural Extension Agents drawn from the project's catchment areas across the state.

The field demonstration, held on Monday as a practical session following the earlier classroom training for the Extension Agents, featured the establishment of Mother Demonstration Plots, providing participants with a hands-on learning environment to complement the theoretical knowledge previously imparted to them.

The initiative aims to equip the participants with the technical and practical skills required to promote climate-smart farming practices among rural farmers in the state.

The overall objective is to enhance agricultural productivity, build resilience against the adverse effects of climate change, and strengthen food security in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

Upon completion of the training, the Extension Agents are expected to transfer both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience acquired to selected farmers, ensuring the widespread adoption of innovative and sustainable agricultural practices across Kwara State.

The field exercise commenced in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area, with the deployment of tractors for land preparation of the demonstration plots. 

The Extension Agents were later taken through the practical procedures involved in Climate-Smart Agriculture by resource persons, Engr. Luqman Durojaiye of NAERLS and Dr. Akeem Ajeigbe of IITA.

Engr. Durojaiye explained that beneficiary farmers would receive improved seed varieties alongside other essential agricultural inputs under the intervention. 

According to him, the support is designed to enable farmers to achieve higher crop yields and bumper harvests despite the challenges posed by changing climatic conditions.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Professor Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday from her office along Fate Road, Ilorin. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
