KWSG Receives State-of-the-Art Equipment To Boosts Maternal, Newborn Care

Kwara State Government has received a major boost in its drive to reduce maternal and newborn deaths following the donation of state-of-the-art Safer Birth Bundle of Care (SBCC) equipment and supplies by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) under the European Union Strengthening Access to Reproductive and Adolescent Health (EU-SARAH) programme.

The life-saving equipment, formally handed over to beneficiary health facilities yesterday in Ilorin, is expected to strengthen emergency obstetric and newborn care.

The equipment is also expected to improve skills of frontline health workers and enhance the quality of maternal and child healthcare services across the state.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the intervention as another milestone in the Kwara State Government's sustained partnership with UNICEF and the European Union to safeguard the lives of mothers and newborns.

She reaffirmed the administration's commitment to ending preventable maternal and neonatal deaths, stressing that every mother deserves a safe delivery and every newborn deserves a healthy start to life.

Dr El-Imam urged healthcare workers in the beneficiary facilities to make effective and responsible use of the equipment, noting that the tools would strengthen practical training, improve emergency response during childbirth and ultimately save lives.

The Commissioner commended UNICEF and the European Union for their continued support to the state's health sector, describing the donation as a valuable investment in improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in Kwara.

Representative of UNICEF in Kwara State, Dr Danlami Uthman described the donation as the fulfilment of a shared commitment to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. 

He applauded the Kwara State Government for prioritizing quality healthcare and sustaining programmes that improve the wellbeing of women and children.

Earlier, the Director of Public Health, Dr Oluwatosin Fakayode, said the equipment would significantly improve the capacity of healthcare workers through simulation-based training, leading to better quality care and improved survival for mothers and newborns.

Also speaking, the State Reproductive Health Coordinator, Dr Kafayat Kofo, described the intervention as a strategic investment in the health of mothers and babies.

She also appreciated the Kwara State Government, UNICEF and the European Union for their unwavering commitment to strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services.

The donated equipment includes; Moyo foetal heart rate monitors, NeoNatalie simulators, MamaNatalie simulators, MamaBirthie models, flip charts, medication tables and other essential training tools designed to improve safe delivery practices in health facilities across Kwara State.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
