KWSG, NOA Deepen Partnership to Combat Drug Abuse Among Transporters

The Kwara State Government and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kwara State Directorate, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at eradicating drug abuse, narcotics consumption, and other forms of substance abuse, particularly among commercial transport operators across the state.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to the partnership while receiving a delegation of the National Orientation Agency, led by the State Director, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry's headquarters in Ilorin, Tuesday.

Hon. Lafia Korasabi expressed appreciation to the NOA delegation for the visit and the insightful discussions on forging a strategic partnership to address the growing concern of drug abuse among transporters. 

He described the initiative as timely and assured the agency of the Ministry's readiness to take decisive steps toward achieving the shared objective.

The Commissioner noted that the Ministry of Transportation remains open to meaningful partnerships capable of promoting social peace, public safety, and community development. 

He reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to addressing the challenge of drug abuse through coordinated efforts across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), adding that the Ministry would ensure the campaign reaches the appropriate stakeholders within the transport sector for maximum impact.

Earlier, the State Director of the NOA, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar, said the visit formed part of the agency's ongoing public enlightenment campaign to foster collaboration against drug abuse, narcotics consumption, social violence, and the spread of fake news, which he noted are major contributors to insecurity, road crashes, and other societal challenges.

According to him, the Ministry of Transportation is a critical partner in the campaign because transportation remains central to the daily lives of citizens. 

He added that with the approach of forthcoming national elections, there is a need to continually reorient transport operators to abstain from substance abuse while driving and to uphold responsible conduct.

Alhaji Abubakar also cautioned against the spread of fake news, noting that misinformation originating from garages and among commuters can spread rapidly and fuel tension. 

He therefore urged transport operators to sustain the good character, discipline, and safe driving culture for which Kwara State's transport sector widely known.

Present at the meeting were the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mallam Tajudeen Onikoko; Director of Transport Planning and Coordination, Engr. Michael Bamidele; Director of Mechanical Services, Engr. Olayinka Busari; and other management staff of the Ministry.

Members of the NOA delegation included the Deputy Director, Civic Value and Democracy Education, Mrs. Kemi Omole; Deputy Director, Special Duties, Barr. Lawal Tajudeen; Deputy Director, Youth Engagement and Inclusion, Elder Solomon Kolo; Deputy Director, Drugs Abuse and Narcotics, Hajia Zainab Apaokagi; Deputy Director, Media, Mallam Musa Gabi; Chairman of the Union, Comrade Kolapo Ayinla; and Dr. Rafael Adeyemi.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
