KWSG Charges Women to Embrace Women Economic Empowerment

The Kwara State Government has charged women across the state to take full advantage of the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economy.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, gave the charge on Tuesday during a capacity-building training on the WEE Policy as part of the week long programme on the Domestication of WEE Policy held at the Ministry’s conference room in Ilorin, with participants drawn from traders, farmers, artisans and civil servants across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Commissioner explained that the programme is being driven by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and affirmed the states’ readiness to domesticate the policy, declaring that Kwara State is fully committed to implementing the policy to ensure women benefit from available opportunities.

Chief Afolashade encouraged women to register and participate in the WEE programme in order to gain knowledge in financial services, credit access and investment.

Also speaking, the Director of Women Development Directorate in the Ministry, Hajia Medinat Idris, advised women to key into the initiative to help address challenges such as discriminatory practices, unpaid care work, and limited access to education and technology.

Facilitators from the WEE Technical Team, University of Ilorin, Dr. Toluwalope Agaja and Dr. Falilat Lawal, engaged the participants and stated that the objective of the WEE Policy is to increase women’s participation in the workforce and entrepreneurship, while also promoting equal opportunities in employment and business.

The Iya Oloja General of Kwara State, Hajia Mubiat Olumo, commended the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for supporting market women and women farmers with grants across the 16 LGAs and appealed for more financial support and regular capacity-building programmes to enlighten women on available opportunities.

In her remarks, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA), Mrs. Sokunbi Wuraola, called on the WEE team to incorporate training on digital skills, networking and access to digital tools to enable women to compete in the digital economy.

Similarly, the Head of Product and Market Development, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Dr. Ayinde Mosadi, lauded the initiative and called for stronger collaboration between the WEE programme and women in Kwara, emphasizing the need for accessible loans and proper monitoring of how funds are utilized.

The participants identified lack of finance as the major barrier to the growth of women-owned businesses.

Kwara State Government to begin In-Between Round Immunization Activity in 1,014 Settlements

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with development partners, will commence the In-Between Round Immunization Activity (IBRA) across 1,014 settlements in 128 wards of the state from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of efforts to close immunity gaps and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus. The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), Professor Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday from her office along Fate Road, Ilorin. Kwara Monthly Sanitation Holds Saturday, July 25th

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for this month will come up on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 across the state, between the hours of seven o' clock and ten o' clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The statement, enjoined members of the public to participate fully in the sanitation exercise as there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state during the period of the exercise.
