KWARA GOVERNMENT REASSURES MOTORISTS, INSPECTS NEW MORO BRIDGE BYPASS

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that road infrastructure across the State continues to support economic growth, ease transportation, and improve the daily lives of residents.

This assurance was given by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Elder Anthony Gana Abu, during an inspection of the newly completed bypass to the Moro Bridge at the weekend.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq understands the importance of accessible roads to businesses, farmers, commuters, and communities, and will continue to prioritise projects that make movement safer and easier for everyone.

He described the newly completed bypass as a timely intervention put in place to minimise the hardship caused by the collapse of the Bailey Bridge while work continues on the new Moro Bridge and the Ilorin Igbeti Federal Highway.

Elder Abu thanked transport unions and members of the public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout the construction period and assured road users that the State Government remains committed to seeing the ongoing projects completed as quickly as possible through sustained engagement with the relevant authorities.

While appealing to motorists to use the temporary bypass responsibly, he advised operators of heavy-duty trucks to avoid the bridge, explaining that it was constructed as a temporary measure and is not designed for articulate vehicles.

Also speaking during the inspection, the Director of Civil Engineering in the Ministry, Engr. Moshood Akanbi, stressed the need for continued collaboration between the Ministry and transport unions to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the bypass.

Representatives of transport unions commended the Kwara State Government for responding swiftly to the situation and providing an alternative route within a short time.

The State Trustee of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mohammed Atelubo, described the Government's intervention as timely and unprecedented, noting that the bypass had brought relief to commuters and transport operators who depend on the route daily.

He also appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his responsive leadership and appealed for continued efforts towards the speedy completion of the Ilorin Igbeti Federal Highway.

Similarly, the State Public Relations Officer of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Soliu Omodada, praised the Government for the way it managed the challenges that followed the collapse of the Bailey Bridge. He assured the Ministry of the association's support in ensuring that road users comply with the guidelines for using the temporary bypass and expressed optimism that the new Moro Bridge would soon be completed.

Kwara declares Tuesday Hijra Holiday, wishes Muslims blessed 1448 AH

Kwara State Government has declared Tuesday June 16 a public holiday in the state in commemoration of the 1448 New Hijra Year.
