2026 World Day Against Human Trafficking: KWSG Collaborates Stakeholders to Tackle Illegal Migration, Insecurity

As Kwara State Government prepares for the celebration of the 2026 World Day Against Human Trafficking, the State government has taken a bold step to tackle insecurity bedeviling some parts of the state through collaboration with major stakeholders'in the state.

The state Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman who dropped the hint in Ilorin, spoke of the government's intention to partner the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and other security agencies to stop illegal immigrants into the state.

Speaking during his visitation to the state Commands of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in Ilorin, the Commissioner who also doubles as the Chairman of the state Task Force on Human Trafficking, explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening partnerships with relevant authorities in the state to stem the tide of insecurity.

Represented by the Director, Gender-Based Violence Response Unit of the Ministry of Justice, who is also the Secretary of the Task Force, Funke Balogun Esq, he explained that the celebration slated for July 30th, 2026, is themed  "Trapped behind the Scam"

The Attorney General who also lamented the influx of irregular people into the state without a proper profiling, described the action as a security threat to the citizens, emphasizing that government is committed to addressing the insecurity challenges and restore normalcy to the affected communities.

"This irregular migration is not unconnected with the issue of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry that found their ways into our state. Before now, Kwara State has been a very peaceful State", he said.

He stated that no Nigerian can be denied the right of living in any state of their choice, but stating that every migrant into the state must come with a purpose.

He therefore, urged the NIS, NSCDC and other security agencies to support the state government so as to tackle the menace of  Human Trafficking in the State, saying the fight is a difficult task that must be accomplished.

The Attorney General stated that finding a solution to the state's insecurity challenges begins with checking illegal migration of people into Kwara State through data tracking and proper profiling which can be achieved through collaborative efforts with appropriate authorities both at the state borders and in their different offices across the state.

In his own remarks, the state Coordinator of Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Mr. Olufemi Oyedeji, stressed the need for  a decisive action against human trafficking, noting that girl children and women are mostly affected.

Responding, the Comptroller of NIS, Kwara State Command, Hussain Ibrahim, who was represented by the Deputy Comptroller, Saka Jimoh, expressed support for the Task force in terms of logistics and other areas the committee may require its support in its fight against human trafficking in the state.

He charged the Task force to extend sensitisation campaigns against human trafficking to market places and religious Centres to expose the perpetrators' tricks in order to prevent avoidable exploitation  of the people.

Also in his response, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Mohammed, who also expressed the command's readiness to support the state task force, said the NSCDC will strengthen its cooperation with NIS at the state borders to prevent human trafficking.

Kwara declares Tuesday Hijra Holiday, wishes Muslims blessed 1448 AH

Kwara State Government has declared Tuesday June 16 a public holiday in the state in commemoration of the 1448 New Hijra Year.
