Kwara State Govt reaffirms commitment to curbing corruption

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption by ensuring that both political appointees and career civil servants fully comply with relevant civil service regulations and constitutional requirements.

This was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, when he received a delegation from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) at the Conference Room of the Governor's Office in Ilorin.

Professor Saba stated that compliance with the regulations of the Code of Conduct Bureau by public office holders and career civil servants is not only a constitutional requirement but also an opportunity for government employees to guide and monitor their conduct while carrying out official responsibilities and managing their personal affairs. He noted that such compliance contributes significantly to national growth and development, as well as the well-being of citizens.
He assured the delegation of the readiness of the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, to collaborate with and fully support the Bureau in the discharge of its mandate within the state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Shuaib Yitta, stressed that the majority of Kwara State civil servants have consistently complied with the requirements of the Bureau whenever necessary. He, however, urged the Bureau to make its operations more flexible by leveraging modern technology to enable public officers to file their asset declaration forms online.

Earlier, the State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Yusuf Sherifat, explained that the purpose of the visit was to inform the State Government about the Bureau's proposed workshop for public office holders and career civil servants across the state, as well as to seek the government's support and collaboration for its success.

Dr. Sherifat added that other target participants for the workshop include local government employees and political office holders, teachers, students of secondary and tertiary institutions, as well as Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and Not-for-Profit Organisations.

She stated that the objective of the workshop is to enlighten participants on the mandates of the Bureau and the need for relevant individuals to comply with its requirements as responsible and patriotic citizens.

According to her, the workshop will also help to correct misconceptions and negative perceptions that portray the Bureau's activities as a witch-hunt or an invasion of privacy.

Dr. Sherifat further used the opportunity to appreciate the administration of Governor AbdulRazaq for its continued support for the Bureau and other federal agencies operating in the state. She also commended the Governor's achievements across various sectors.
