Finance Commissioner Dr. Hauwa Nuru Honoured with Award of Excellence by Society of Women in Taxation

In a moment of well-deserved recognition, the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), Nigeria , for her exceptional contributions to public financial management, taxation reform, and female empowerment in governance.

The award, “Distinguished Female Tax Administrator & Role Model” presented at her office in Ilorin, celebrates Dr. Nuru’s impact as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and a distinguished role model whose leadership continues to elevate standards of excellence and integrity within the public sector.

Leading the delegation, Mrs. Oluwakemi Obakemi, Kwara State Coordinator of SWIT, commended the Commissioner’s unwavering support for tax education, advocacy, and youth engagement—key elements that have helped the Chapter attain national acclaim. She highlighted Dr. Nuru’s role in creating an enabling environment that has fueled their progress, particularly in initiatives that empower girls and young professionals.

One of such feats includes the recent victory at the 2025 National Secondary School Tax Debate Competition, where Miss Hamalat Eniola Agboola, a 16-year-old student from Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, emerged as the national champion and was crowned 2025 Tax Ambassador during the National Tax Summit.

In her remarks, Dr. Hauwa Nuru expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Society for the honour, dedicating the award to her team at the Ministry of Finance and the young girls breaking new ground across Kwara State. She applauded SWIT for its visionary leadership and reaffirmed her commitment to driving inclusive financial reforms that touch lives at every level of society.

“This recognition is a reminder that when women lead with purpose, society flourishes. I share this honour with every young girl who dreams boldly and with the incredible team I am privileged to lead,” she stated.

Dr. Nuru also used the occasion to express profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his steadfast support, progressive leadership, and inclusive policies, which have enabled professionals like her to thrive and make meaningful impacts.

“Your Excellency’s leadership continues to inspire a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation in governance. Thank you for championing reforms that empower both institutions and individuals,” she added.
Under Dr. Nuru’s stewardship, the Ministry of Finance has driven forward transformative policies—strengthening revenue systems, enhancing transparency, and building strategic partnerships that position Kwara as a beacon of financial discipline and development.

The event concluded with members of SWIT reaffirming their dedication to advancing tax awareness and inclusivity, pledging continued collaboration with the Ministry of Finance to build a future where knowledge, integrity, and opportunity intersect for the good of all.
