Staff of the Governor’s Office Complex on Wednesday embarked on a coordinated environmental sanitation exercise, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment.  The exercise saw active participation from personnel of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Office of the Head of Service, and the Ministry of Justice, who collectively cleaned their surroundings within the complex. The Kwara State Government today flagged off the 2026 Hajj operation exercise with the airlift of the first batch of 374 intending pilgrims alongside three officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to Saudi Arabia. A member of the Board, Alhaji Mahmud Bube led the 374 intending pilgrims that the MaxAir aircraft conveyed and departed the Babatunde Idi-Agbon International Airport, Ilorin, at about 3p.m. Speaking with journalists at the airport, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji AbdulKadri Abdulsalam, advised intending pilgrims to be law-abiding and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the state and Nigeria while in Saudi Arabia. The Kwara State Government has flagged off the rollout of a free long-acting HIV prevention injection for residents, as part of sustained efforts to reduce new infections and strengthen preventive services across the state. The launch, held on Tuesday at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, featured the introduction of Lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injectable administered as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), offering a convenient alternative to daily oral medication. The Kwara State Government has trained 50 individuals on beekeeping with the aim of achieving the purpose of the recently launched Kwara Livestock Entrepreneurship Scheme(KWALES). The State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, explained that the one-day intensive training on beekeeping, aimed at equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in apiculture as a sustainable agricultural venture. The first batch of intending pilgrims from Kwara State has safely arrived in Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the 2026 Hajj exercise. The 374 intending pilgrims were airlifted aboard a MaxAir flight from the Babatunde Idi-Agbon International Airport, Ilorin, departed at exactly 3:00pm on Wednesday. The report further indicates that the second batch of 556 intending pilgrims also departed Ilorin aboard another MaxAir flight at about 2:00 a.m. on Thursday. With the successful airlift of the two batches, a total of 930 intending pilgrims from Kwara State had so far been transported to Saudi Arabia for this year’s pilgrimage. The Kwara State Government has organised free literacy and skill acquisition programmes for out-of-school children, youths and adults across the state as part of its efforts to curb illiteracy. The programmes, implemented by the Kwara State Agency for Mass Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, include basic literacy, post-literacy, vocational/skill acquisition, junior secondary school and continuing education programmes across centres in Ilorin and other Local Government Areas. The Kwara State Government has announced plans to distribute two million Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs) to households across all the 16 Local Government Areas in the state as part of efforts to curb malaria. The Acting Head of Service in Kwara State, Dr. Mrs. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident that occurred on Workers’ Day, claiming the lives of three workers and leaving four others injured while returning  to their base after the celebration in Ilorin the State capital. Kwara State Ministry of Works has denied expending N1.2bn on the Moro Bridge, a federal bridge linking Kwara to Oyo State. In a statement on Sunday, the Ministry called the claim in a viral video by one Ajibare Talks a malicious campaign of calumny targeted at the state government and its officials. "As a responsive government, the administration has always intervened every time there is anything that could hurt the citizens, irrespective of whether the infrastructure involved is a federal facility like the Moro Bailey Bridge," the statement said. "However, the last palliative intervention on the said bridge gulped N27m only. It was to put the bridge back to temporary use, even as the Federal Government has already started the construction of a new bridge.
