KWSG Commemorates International Widow’s Day, Commends Widows for the Laudable Project

In commemoration of the International Widow’s Day, the Kwara State Government has commended widows for organising a worthwhile event and participating in a laudable project that will benefit their future and empower them financially.

The First Lady of Kwara State and Founder of Ajike People Centre, Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, made this commendation on Monday at the International Widow’s Day celebration and launching of Modern Garri Factory of the Christian Widows Caretakers’ Association, held at the headquarters of the Association in Irewolede, Ilorin.

The First Lady, who was represented by the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, noted that the widows have done remarkably well by contributing and backing it up with visible actions that everyone can attest to, such as the establishment of the Modern Garri Factory.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, called on widows to be self-reliant and economically independent in order to cushion the effect of the economic downturn that is being experienced globally.

Chief  Afolashade, who was represented by the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ubandawaki, commended the Association's efforts to promote economic empowerment among widows, noting that the initiative resonates with the present administration's policy thrust.

According to her, “It is encouraging to know that the policies of our gender-friendly Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also include widows. His Government has not, at any time, neglected the plight of widows in Kwara State. Commemorating and celebrating a day as this in the State is not without the full support and backing of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.”

The Commissioner noted that “this present administration is ready to support the sustainability of this Modern Garri Factory as it will help lessen the burden on the Government and also impact positively the lives of people that the provisions of Government might not reach.”

Earlier, the Patron of the Association, Prophet Shona Ebenezer, commended the State Government for its contribution and commitment towards the welfare of widows in the State, while soliciting for more to be done so that widows can be independent and self-reliant.
