Kwara Govt Restates Commitment to Safe Travel on Roads, Water Ways

The Kwara State Government has expressed its unrelenting efforts in enhancing safe travels of residents in the State, saying it is working round the clock towards having a standard transportation system to ensure safety on the road and water ways in the State.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi stated this today in Ilorin while answering questions on a Radio Kwara Interactive programme "the Platform".

The Commissioner disclosed that the State Government on Friday received one thousand life jackets as part of the Federal Government's efforts to promote safe water travels across riverine communities in Nigeria.

The items he stated are to be distributed across riverine communities in Patigi, Edu, Baruten, Kaiama, and Moro local governments, while awaiting the balance of two thousand five hundred life jackets as well as marine ambulance and viber boats.

Korasabi who is the Chiroma of Yashikira said the Ministry had concluded plans to train people on safety and enforcement of the usage of the life jackets while traveling by boats.

He implored the benefiting communities and boat operators to ensure that passengers use the jackets always, adding that a task force had been put in place to monitor loading and night travels.

The Commissioner applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Federal Government for their support, calling for more collaboration with the central government.

Callers on the programme appealed for more sensitization of the public and creation of terminal bus stops across the State.
