Commissioner Decries Slow Pace of Work by Contractors in Offa
The Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata has decried the slow pace of work by contractors handling ongoing projects at various sites in the Offa Local Government Council, warning them against unnecessary delays, ensuring strict compliance with contract specifications.
The Commissioner who disclosed this during the ongoing inspections of the project at the Council under the second phase of inspections across the Council, expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work and implored officials of the works department of the Council to ensure that contractors comply with the Bill of Quantity and adhere to standards.
He disclosed that the projects were given to indigenous contractors, based on the present administration's policy of promoting the local contractors and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring speedy completion of the projects.
Speaking on the ongoing road construction of Ayaba Obada Ring Road, the Commissioner commended the Executive Chairman for his bold steps of embarking on the multi million naira project, adding that when completed, it would not only boost the economic activities of the area but create the easiest route to the main markets for commuters.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government Council, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji appreciated the Commissioner for his professional advice, and promised to ensure the correction of all his observations.
He reiterated his determination to ensure that all projects embarked upon are completed for the benefit of his people and
appealed to other communities with similar requests to exercise patience, as they would be captured in the next phase, adding that all requests will be attended to in the project interventions.
Among the projects inspected were the ongoing construction of a block of two classrooms at Oke - Amin, ongoing gradings of road across the Council, construction of two culverts at Bovas and Orita Merin, and the ongoing comprehensive renovation of the legislative chambers at the Council, among others.
