AHMADU BELLO WAY: KWARTMA REAFFIRMS RESTRICTION, WARNS VIOLATORS WILL FACE SANCTIONS

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has reiterated its commitment to enforcing the restriction of commercial transport activities along Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 23, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Suleiman Abdullahi Oba, reaffirmed that the restriction remains in effect for commercial motorcyclists (Okada), tricycle operators (Keke), and truck drivers. He warned that violators will face appropriate sanctions and may be mandated to undergo additional training at an accredited driving school.

According to the CEO, the decision to restrict these categories of vehicles on Ahmadu Bello Way is aimed at bolstering security and ensuring the safety of road users, particularly in the corridor leading to key government establishments. He added that the enforcement would also help restore orderliness and aesthetic value to the high-profile axis.

This reaffirmation follows a recent ruling by the Kwara State High Court, which struck out a legal challenge to the restriction. The court held that KWARTMA was a necessary party to the suit and should have been included for fair hearing, effectively upholding the legality of the enforcement.

Quoting the court’s position, the statement noted: "The restriction, implemented by the Kwara State Government, aims to enhance safety and security along Ahmadu Bello Way."

KWARTMA urges all road users, especially those affected by the restriction, to comply with the directive and abide by all traffic regulations in the interest of public safety and the protection of lives and property.
