Commissioner Inspects Facilities at Kwara College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Kwara State, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has paid a working visit to the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin, where she inspected the institution’s facilities and interacted with its management and staff. 

The visit, aimed at assessing the current state of infrastructure and academic environment, was conducted alongside the Director in charge of Tertiary Health Education at the Ministry, Mrs. Sherifat Shola Giwa.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu said that their visit is to reaffirm the government’s dedication to improving tertiary health education and boosting the State’s healthcare delivery through well-trained professionals.

During the inspection tour, Hajia Modibbo Kawu expressed her satisfaction with the quality of facilities available in the institution, describing them as impressive and reflective of the government’s commitment to quality healthcare education. 

She lauded the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the significant investment in the health education sector, saying such commitment is laying a solid foundation for the production of highly skilled and competent health workers in the State.

“The giant strides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in health education are commendable and exemplary. His administration has continued to prioritise human capital development through sustainable support for institutions like this,” she said.

The Commissioner also commended the Management and Staff of the College for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence and professional training, emphasizing that the passion and discipline displayed by the workforce are instrumental to the school's rising reputation.

“I must appreciate the Management and entire staff for their continuous sacrifice, resilience, and professionalism in nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Your efforts do not go unnoticed,” she added.

In response to some of the challenges raised by the school authorities, Hajia Modibbo Kawu assured that the Ministry would look into the issues with a view to proffering solutions to enable a more conducive learning environment.

In her remarks, the Provost of the College, Alhaja Yusuf Salamatu Iyabo who was joined by members of the management team, including the College Registrar, Mall. Hanafi Olusola Isiaka, and the Bursar, Mr. Agunbiade Teslim, expressed deep appreciation to the Commissioner for the visit and her words of encouragement. 

She also extended gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support, which she said has provided an enabling environment for learning and institutional growth.

“Governor AbdulRazaq has been a pillar of support to our college. His commitment to the health and education sectors is the reason we are able to deliver on our mandate effectively. We also thank the Commissioner for her proactive engagement and support,” the Provost noted.

Alhaja Yusuf disclosed that the college runs comprehensive academic programmes including Nursing, Midwifery, Post Basic Nursing, Community Midwifery, and both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Nursing Sciences. 

She particularly emphasized the Community Midwifery programme as a strategic initiative targeted at training community health officers to address grassroots health challenges, with many students sponsored by their communities for this purpose.

During the tour, the Commissioner and her team visited key facilities including the College’s administration block, laboratories, practical rooms, lecture rooms, library, hostels, and the conference room.
